RE: Supplemental Brake Systems - update 8/7/06

It's no secret that your brake system uses power from your Jeep. If you are not driving your Jeep enough after a long tow, the brake system will drain your battery over a few days. I would do one of two things. Add a 12v line from your coach to charge the battery on the Jeep or,,,, switch to a passive system like we did by going to the readybrake system. It uses no power and is truly proportional.

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

Well, it's not sold but we got a 2 year lease starting in August. Hopefully the market will turn by then and we'll get a little more for it by waiting.
Now I can take a breath,,,,,,,aaaahhhhhhhhhh.

RE: Jeep JK Flat Tow

We tow our 07 Wrangler. Just pull the IOD fuse, see picture. If your coach uses the same bulb for blinking as it does for brake lights and want to use the factory Jeep lights you should also pull the M1 fuse. The M1 fuse will stop the brake light switch on the Jeep from over riding the brake light signal from the coach. If you are interested a company called CooltechLLC sells a great wiring harness that is plug and play.

You won't loose any stored channels in the radio or computer related items. Even the factory pulls the IOD fuse when they ship the Jeeps to the dealer. No need to disconnect the battery.

RE: Tow Bar And Brake System

I use the whole setup. It works flawlessly and was a very economical solution to bringing the jeep with us. I highly recommend their products. They are built very rugged. I come from a manufacturing background and was so impressed with build quality

RE: How to test wires for towing.

Correct, sorry. I don't have diodes on my setup. I went with a harness for the JK from Cooltech.

RE: OUCH ! SMI BRAKE & BLUE OX

I went with a ReadyBrute / ReadyBrake towbar and aux braking. I found a set of Roadmaster brackets on eBay and used the Cooltech wiring harness for the Jeep. To finish I bought a Roadmaster coiled Umbilical cord. I did a full day of labor to install it all. The whole thing cost me less than $1400.00. CW quoted me 3900.00

RE: How to test wires for towing.

A simple test light should work. Sometimes a VOM is not quick enough to read a pulsing signal like a turn signal.
Try this:
Turn the key to position 2 on the Jeep. Turn on the lights. Take a test light and attach the clip to ground, and look for the 12v at the plug end on the Jeep. Make a diagram on paper and mark your results. Turn off the lights and repeat for the left and right signals.
Do the very same thing on the MH side. From there is should be a pretty simple thing to pair up the appropriate wires.

RE: Monster Mash IV, in Paso Robles, on Nov, 7th to 10th, 2008.

We are in San Juan Bautista and one of our businesses is in Morgan Hill. We've been watching that fire with great concern. Our prayers are out to all the folks that live up there.

RE: No Toad and cutting the umbilical cord!

Get a toad! We started without one and had to depend on friends who did, to haul us around for our outings. Last August we bought our Wrangler and set it up to take with us. Best thing we ever spent money on. We stop for a week or two, maybe a month and have the Jeep to do our daily activities in. As the commercial says, "don't leave home with out it".

RE: Higher gas price, less travel?

From the travels that we take, I see no reduction in traffic. People are out doing what ever they want and when they want to do it. I do think people will cut back in other areas to make up the difference in fuel prices. The economy hasn't effected us yet, because of our business, but we have made a few adjustment in our spending habits as of late. I've dropped a few memberships, not using as many of some of the services we used to use in our business and trying to consolidate some of our leisure / chore list travels in to one trip instead of many. It all helps to go to the bottom line.

RE: Higher gas price, less travel?

Regular at Chevron in Morgan Hill Ca. Today is 405.9, 415.9 for 89 and 425.9 for 91.
The Dolphin uses 87, the Jeep 87 and the X3 is supposed to use 91 but is now on a diet of 87. For the first time since fulltiming I am "happy" to have a gas driven RV. We get 8 mpg overall in the Dolphin, 20 mpg in the Wrangler and 24 in the BMW X3. Diesel is beyond nuts in price.

RE: direct tv sat reception question

Using Direct TV? No HD? You should be pointing to the 101 sat. You most likely will not get your locals but you should get everything else. Had you mentioned that you are only getting even or odd transponders, I would of suggested a new LNB. I'm guessing that you are pointed to the wrong sat. I use a DTV R15 receiver. It takes two inputs from the dish. To accomplish that I use a Sonora Stacker / Destacker. When I first re-aim the dish and get a solid signal, I have to do a reset to the R15 to get both tuners to function.

RE: Higher gas price, less travel?

Julia and I have have a business that will allow us to stay on the road and run our business at the same time. We just stepped up the pace a little in regard to building our business a little faster to offset the price of fuel. So far so good. If I can continue to grow it at the pace we are on, the price of fuel will have no effect on our travel plans. good thing is that what we do, can be taught to anyone, anywhere.

RE: Supplemental Brake Systems - update 8/7/06

Great informative post. Thanks. We use the ReadyBrake system along with the ReadyBrute tow bar. When we were ready to tow the Jeep I wanted a simple system and one that wouldn't break the bank. Since I have some DIY abilities, I took a look at ready brake. I spent a few weeks on ebay looking for some Roadmaster Brakets. Found them for $175.00. Next was a wiring harness, I went with Cooltech, 90.00. I bought a Roadmaster umbilical cord for $70.00. All I had to do was to cut off one end of the 6 prong connector and solder on a round 4 to match what I had done on the Jeep. Lastly the towbar. I bought the ReadyBrute complete kit 902.00. It came with the towbar, aux brake, brake away, indicator and brake light switch relay. The ReadyBrute uses the same ends as Demco. The Demco to Roadmaster towbar adapter was around 90.00. For about $1400.00 we did what I think is one of the nicest setups around. The surge brakes work as intended. Haven't had to make an emergency stop yet but a few that were at least "urgent". You can feel the Jeep giving a good pull on the MH.
